I studied Environmental Sciences at the University of Almeria (UAL) and later I completed a double master's degree in forestry and natural resources management at the universities of Copenhagen (Denmark) and Bangor (UK) under the European Eramus Mundus program. Currently, I am doing my PhD in Applied Environmental Sciences at the UAL with a FPU scholarship (University Teacher Training) from the Spanish Ministry of Education.
Previously I have worked as a research technician at CAESCG doing work related to the identification of indicators for monitoring global change in arid environments within the Poctefex Transhabitat project. During the development of the doctoral thesis, I have done a 3-month research stay at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in Australia with Dr. J. Cleverly.
Since 2017 I am a pre-doctoral fellow at UAL and I develop my research at CAESCG. I also teach in the subjects of Global Change and Socioecological Systems, Flora and Conservation and Species Management, all of them in the degree in Environmental Sciences at UAL.
Currently, I have a PhD in Applied Environmental Sciences, and I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Southern Swedish Forest Research Center in Alnarp, which is part of the Faculty of Forestry at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), in the "Sweet Spot" project.
RESEARCH
My research interests focus on the functioning of groundwater-dependent terrestrial ecosystems in arid zones. Specifically, they focus on plant ecophysiology and its relationships with water, carbon and nutrient cycles. I am currently working in the coastal plain of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park and monitoring the ecosystem dominated by the deep-rooted shrub Ziziphus lotus (jujube). I have participated and collaborated in national (CO-ADAPTA) and European projects (LIFE Adaptamed) that have been developed at CAESCG.
